Princeton Blairstown and CCFA provide 17 Gregory School students an amazing 5 days!

CCFA’s newest community partner is Princeton Blairstown. From July 22 – July 26th 17 students and 6 chaperones including parents and grandparents of the students and Lawaner Sykes with Trenton senior citizens participated in a 5 day over night camp experience. This was a first time experience for many of the students; their first time away from home at an over night camp and first time on a lake in a canoe! The week was full of life transforming encounters, leadership, problem solving, trusting building, cleanup time, rock climbing, campfire toasting marshmallows, skills building in math and reading.

One 5th grade girl stated, “I always had to share a bed, here I had a bunk bed to myself! It felt good!”

Students read books at night with their flashlights.

One boy said “I never been out here. I like it. You don’t think about someone getting shot, we hear birds. I want to live up here.”

When it came time to come home, students cried and some did not want to get off the bus when they arrive back in Trenton!

CCFA understands the urgency of giving children living in poverty opportunities to experience and explore the outdoors. Princeton Blairstown made that happen! We know that new environments are essential to inspire Gregory School students who are poor to see themselves as global citizens with a holistic world view of themselves! Phenomenal encounters like Princeton Blairstown humanized a child’s journey out of poverty to a pathway of academic achievement! We are grateful for our new partnership with Princeton Blairstown. Ms. Jacquelynn M. Rice, CCFA Site Liaison, did an amazing job coordinating the event along with Yolanda l. Robinson, CCFA volunteer.
