CCFA was represented by Wanda Webster Stansbury at the Annual Innovative Schools Summit in Las Vegas, July 6th-9th, the focus of the conference was to address issues and impacts of the pandemic; “learning loss, cultural responsiveness, and supportive discipline “. In addition to sharing our CCFA story and lessons from the pandemic. CCFA ‘s approach to parent engagement and addressing issues of literacy and student behavioral dynamics brought a fresh perspective to many of the panel discussions and working groups I participated.
The biggest takeaway is that CCFA offers a unique level of support to build classroom capacity, parent engagement, and supportive resources to students and public schools. We gained current insights into how to address the increasing needs of children living in poverty, the at-risk student, and new approaches for creating trauma-informed schools and programs for students and families. The Educational Summit had over 1,000 educators, school administrators, and educational policy leaders from across America. The three main barriers to student success and academic achievement; identified by the people I spoke with were; poverty number one barrier, lack of parent engagement and illiteracy among both students and parents, and school attendance overall!
