August 15th, the Center for Child and Family Achievement sponsored 12 Boys from Trenton to attend a “Day at Mercer County Stables” to learn about horses. Each of the boys ages 8-14 yrs. had an unique opportunity to experience mounting and riding a horse. The day began with in a classroom setting learning about horses and how to properly care for them. Each of the boys encountered their horse up close, by grooming and feeding them. It was the first time that any of the boys had ever visited the Stables and their first experience grooming a horse and riding horseback. Each of the boys received a book about Black Cowboys to inspire summer reading and expand their home libraries. A very special note of gratitude to Wanda McNeil, from the Mercer County Park Commission, Christine Cardinal ,Maria Mucha and the Mercer County Stables staff. “This was my first time ever touching a horse, to groom it and actually mount and ride a horse was a cool thing, it was awesome“, one of the students stated!

Very Special Thanks to Danielle Miller-Winrow, Sprout U Arts Academy , our school partner and Susan Rhoda-Hansen for her sponsorship. The Day a Mercer County Stables is a wonderful way to conclude CCFA’s Summer 2023, Nature Exploration and Outdoor Adventures Camps!
